John G. Russell, Jr., age 80 of Nashville, Tennessee, died peacefully on February 1, 2017. Born on August 1, 1936 in Paducah, Kentucky to Sara Draffen Russell and John G. Russell. He was predeceased by his parents, his former wife, Donna Miller Russell, and his sisters, Mary Rose Russell Dunn and Sara Frances Russell Holleman. He is survived by his four children, John G. Russell III (Kristin), Holly Virginia Russell, Kenneth Scott Russell, and Donna Melanie Russell Sides, and his five grandchildren, Graydon, Sage, Max, Tom and Abby. He attended Paducah Tilghman High School in Paducah, and he graduated from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia in 1959. After serving in the U.S. Army Reserves, he and Donna moved to Nashville where they raised their family and he enjoyed a career in banking with Third National Bank and then investments with Hilliard & Lyons, Paine Webber and Wiley Bros. They spent their weekends at the Monteagle S.S. Assembly as the mountain was always their favorite place and a gathering spot for friends and family. John also loved to play golf on the mountain and in Nashville. Although his game may not have been on par with the pros, he did have a hole in one before he had to give up the sport, and he enjoyed just being with his dear friends and playing the game. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 5th from one o'clock to three o'clock in the afternoon at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN. Interment will be in Monteagle, Tennessee at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Monteagle S.S. Assembly. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Belmont Village who cared for Daddy these past two years.
