
John Brown Tirrill, Sr., 81, of Nashville, died Saturday, January 17, 2015. Son of the late W.O. and Bess Tirrill, John was born in St. Louis, MO and grew up in Nashville, graduating from Hillsboro High School. He received his B.A. from Vanderbilt University, where he met his beloved wife of 43 years, the late Nancy Taylor Tirrill. While employed by Third National Bank, John earned a J.D. from the Nashville School of Law, and after 39 years of loyal service to what later became Suntrust Bank, he retired as Executive Vice President of Retail Operations. John was devoted to all of his roles in life, whether that of husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, friend, employee or volunteer. He had a lifelong appreciation of and respect for the outdoors, as well as for those less fortunate, serving numerous years on the board of Friends of Warner Parks and as a volunteer for Saddle-Up.
John was preceded in death by his wife Nancy and his brother, W.O. (Bill) Tirrill, III. Survivors include his sons John B. Tirrill, Jr of Atlanta, GA; Willard Bryant Tirrill of Brentwood, TN; and David Rumsey Tirrill of Castle Rock, Colorado; seven grandchildren and his sister Anne Tirrill Longley of Gainesville, FL.
A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at noon in the Fellowship Hall at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Friends of Warner Park, Saddle-Up or Westminster Presbyterian Church.
