Born in Brookhaven, MS, on September 17, 1975, Jonathan David Carter found his home in Nashville, TN, around the turn of the century and remained until his untimely death at 50 years old on November 3, 2025.
A beautiful man with a generous spirit, Jonathan was also a polymath with many interests. He had a special talent for writing and sharing erudite thoughts and ideas which drew in so many. He was a charmer, like his father, and could carry deep, philosophical conversations with anyone who had the privilege of being invited into the discourse. Everyone who met him recognized his brilliance whether that be his gifted intellect or his copious heart. His loss is felt profoundly. The only respite is in knowing that he is at peace.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold. F. Carter. He was deeply loved and will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know him; his mother, Sybil Avanelle Jones Carter, his sisters Elizabeth A. Carter and Amanda J. Carter, his son Kai David Carter-Sullivan, his uncle and aunts David and Polly Carter, and Mary Lou Jones, as well as, his many cousins and innumerable friends. All who were so fortunate to have their lives brightened by his unique light and loving ways, even if our time together was too short in passing.
Please join us to share stories of his life at the memorial to be held at Tulip Grove Baptist Church, 563 Shute Lane, Old Hickory, TN 37138, on Thursday, November 13, 2025, with visitation at 4pm CST followed by the memorial at 5pm CST.
