Joyce Faye Martin, age 93, entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on July 9, 2026. She was born on October 13, 1932, and lived a life marked by unwavering faith, selfless service, and unconditional love for her family.
Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Micky Lee Martin, Sr.; her parents, Joe and Gladys Vaughan; her sister, Jolene Vaughan Smith; and her son-in-law, Steve Funderburke, Sr.
She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory: her children, Sherry Funderburke, Mickey Martin, Jr. (Cheryl), and Mitzi Martin; her grandchildren, Stephen Funderburke (Christina), Mickey Funderburke (April), Duane Funderburke (Robin), Michele Martin Sullivan (Aiden), and Brooke Martin; her great-grandchildren, Mick Funderburke, Courtney Funderburke, Trey Funderburke (Ally), Alyssa Funderburke Wooten (Austin), Grace Funderburke and Quinn Alexandra Sullivan; her treasured great-great-grandchildren, Wrenleigh Faye Funderburke, Stetson James Wooten, Jayce Decoopman, and Rylan Decoopman. She is also lovingly remembered by her nephews, Gary Smith (Andrea), Ronnie Smith (Janice), David Smith, and Mike Smith (Debbie), along with many extended family members and dear friends.
Above all else, Joyce loved the Lord. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she faithfully served Him through prayer, generosity, and humble acts of service. She was a devoted prayer warrior whose love for Jesus was evident in the way she cared for others.
A proud native Nashvillian, Joyce dedicated her life to being a loving wife and stay-at-home mother, pouring her heart into raising her children and creating a home filled with warmth, love, and faith. As her family grew, so did her joy. When asked about her favorite memories, she never spoke of places or possessions—she always spoke of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren - FIVE generations! They were the greatest blessings of her life.
Joyce also found great fulfillment in serving her community. She volunteered countless hours at her children’s schools through the PTA, faithfully served as a Pink Lady volunteer at Baptist Hospital, and generously gave her time as treasurer for her church, her homeowners association, and the Baptist Hospital Volunteers. She believed that serving others was one of life’s greatest privileges.
She had a gift for making people feel loved. Whether she was baking cookies for family and friends, giving thoughtful gifts, or simply offering encouragement and prayers, Joyce found joy in putting others before herself. She also loved shopping and took pride in always looking, as she would happily say, “cute n’ darlin’”—and she certainly was.
Joyce’s greatest legacy is not found in the many things she accomplished, but in the lives she touched. She leaves behind generations who know the love of Jesus because they first saw it lived out in her. She will be remembered as a faithful Christian, a devoted wife, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, and a woman whose kindness, grace, generosity, and steadfast faith made the world a better place.
Though our hearts are heavy with her absence, we rejoice knowing she has heard the words she longed to hear: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Her family finds comfort in knowing that one glorious day, they will be reunited with her in Heaven.
