Laura Jean McEwing, age 51, of Clarksville, TN, departed from this world on May 16th, 2025 surrounded by family. Born in Lima, OH, Laura moved with her family to Tennessee at a young age. First settling in Stewart County, Laura had fond memories of roller skating up and down the county roads to get to school.
When Laura's big sister, Lee, turned 11, her complications with muscular dystrophy began. Even from a young age, Laura was a natural caregiver and tended to her sister as Lee succumbed to the disease. Attending concerts and crafting, the two were inseparable until Lee's passing in 2005.
A proud flautist in the marching band, Laura graduated from Northwest High School in 1991, and went on to attend classes at Middle Tennessee State University before returning to Clarksville to help run her family's business, K&L Glass Company. When she wasn't helping out at K&L, she worked at K-Mart. There, she met her soulmate, Phillip.
Married on March 17th, 1997, Laura and Phillip's time as a young, carefree married couple was cut short when they welcomed their first child, Bristol, just before they celebrated their one-year anniversary. In 2002, they introduced the world to Justice "Sunny."
When K&L Glass closed its doors, Laura and Phillip took the opportunity to open their own glass shop in 2007: M&M Glassworks. For 15 years, M&M Glassworks had built a reputation that stemmed from accuracy and honesty. Not fully recovering from the 2020 pandemic, M&M Glassworks closed its doors in 2022. Laura then became an office manager for Omni Family of Services.
Laura had the dryest sense of humor and was known for thoroughly confusing folks with her dead pan deliveries. She shared a deep love of Harry Potter with both of her children, and lovingly irritated Phillip with her 80's music and "Friends." She loved to gossip with her sister-in-law, helped her nephews and niece learn to love reading, and was a source of comfort for her mother-in-law.
Laura is survived by her husband of 28 years, Donald Phillip McEwing; children Bristol (Cole Rau) McEwing, and Justice "Sunny" (Elizabeth) McEwing; mother-in-law Brenda Keen; sister-in-law Savannah Keen; niece Avaley Farris; nephews Hunter Keen and Maverick Farris; and her three cats Zuzu, Diamond, and Ariel.
She is preceded in death by her father Roger William Boroff; sister Julia Lee Boroff; grandmother-in-law Katherine Marino; and sincere family friends Donald Parish and Dale Bandy.
A private Celebration of Life will be held for Laura.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Montgomery County Animal Care & Control Shelter and Omni Family of Services in Laura's Memory.
