LaVonne "Brownie" Selph Utley, 86, died Saturday Jan. 19 with her family by her side. She was born on Sept 14, 1932 in Duncan, OK to Orda and Ethel Selph. During her mid-childhood the family moved to Freer, TX where she would graduate with honors from Freer High School. The couple would return to Howards hometown of Nashville, Tn and just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past year. Brownie was an active member of Crieve Hall Church of Christ and remained a faithful Christian until her death.
Everyone knew her as Brownie, a nickname her grandfather gave her when she and her twin sister were born. Throughout her life she exemplified warmth, love and fun in her daily life. She was blessed with a lovely singing voice, the gift of art, the ability to make quilting master pieces and provide a smile unlike most others. She was always filled with fun and laughter with her family.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Howard, her children Phillip (Laura) Utley and Amy (Stan) Overstreet, grandchildren Lindsey, Morgan and Jordan and sister, LaFonne Hobbs and many friends. Preceding her death include her parents Orda and Ethel Selph, siblings Lois (Bob) Smith, LaVerne (James) Derseweh, Ordina (Bryan) Keeton and Bill Hobbs.
There will be a Celebration of Life service on Saturday Jan. 26 at 11:30 am in Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall with a gathering of friends before the service from 9am until service time. Burial to follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.
