Lillian W. Hood- age 87, passed away August 16, 2017. Mrs. Hood (known by most people as Inie) was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, James A. Hood; survived by three sons, all living in Middle Tennessee: David Hood (Jo), James Hood (Juan), and Mark Hood (Priscilla), 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Inie was a daughter of Porter Marberry Willis and Lillian Bixler Willis from Akron, Ohio where Inie was born in 1929 as the Great Depression began. The family moved to Nashville when she was in high school. She attended Donelson High and graduated from West High School. Inie met “Hood”, as he was known by most people, and they were married in 1948. After living in the small white “starter home” across the field from the Yunker’s Big House on Elm Hill Pike, Hood & Inie moved to Donelson and lived in the same house more than 60 years. They and their three boys became charter members of a new Lutheran church in Donelson, St. John’s. Inie was the organist and choir director for many years. Inie was one of two women who were first elected to the church council. Prior to St. John’s, Inie was the organist at St. Paul’s Lutheran where Hood had grown up. Inie and Hood eventually became members of First Lutheran where they both thoroughly enjoyed singing in the choir. Inie was a homemaker. She was a member of the PTA, Donelson Garden Club, made many ceramic pieces, and was an avid bowler. After the boys were older, she worked in the banking industry. Metropolitan Savings and Loan even honored Inie, or “Miss Lil”, as “Employee of the Year.” Inie thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren, and in later years, her great grands. Inie and Hood moved to Creekside at Three Rivers Assisted Living, Murfreesboro, TN September, 2015. Her beloved Hood died five weeks later. For a little more than ten years, Inie has gradually disappeared behind the curtain of Alzheimer’s. In fact, her only living brother and her only sister both died with Alzheimer’s within the past year. The family rejoices that Inie has now been made new in the resurrection of Jesus Christ and that she is back in her, uh, right mind. But for those who knew Inie well, we aren’t sure she was ever in her right mind! This fun-loving, caring, determined and very talented lady will be missed tremendously. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Mount Olivet Funeral Home with Dr. Brian Hooper officiating. Interment to follow in Historic Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday from 4-8 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 p.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Online condolences may be made at www.mountolivet.com
