
Lois was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and faithful servant of the Lord. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Luell Orbin Smith; and her parents, James and Grace Edwards.
She is survived by her sons, Conor (Sonnie) Smith of Hendersonville, Tennessee, and Mark (Laura) Smith of Huntsville, Alabama; her daughter, Celeste (Mark) Hammond of Fairview, Tennessee; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; her sister, Nina Bennett; as well as numerous loved ones and her church family.
Lois had a love for sports, especially softball. She enjoyed playing the game and continued to play well into her 80’s. Her love of softball brought her many wonderful memories, including the special accomplishment of being part of a team that won the Senior Olympics one year.
Her faith was an important part of her life, and Lois was deeply involved in her church and the mission work of Hopewell Baptist Church. She cherished her church family and faithfully supported the Hopewell Baptist Church Missions.
Her love for her family, her faith, her competitive spirit, and her joyful love of softball will be remembered and treasured by all who knew her.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Carter Hammond, Colton Hammond, Chipper Hammond, Andrew Smith, Isaac Smith, and Daniel Smith.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery in Springfield, Tennessee.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hopewell Baptist Church Mission Fund.
