Margaret “Marcy” Waser Brandau of Nashville, TN, age 82, died instantly in an automobile accident on June 28, 2018. She was born to the late Margaret Calhoun and Carl Waser of Philadelphia, PA. She is survived by her husband of 56 years Seawell J. Brandau, her son Robert S. Brandau, her daughter Margaret Jane Dodson and grandsons, Cameron Dodson, Brian Dodson, and Jason Dodson. She is also survived by a brother Paul Waser (Arthur Tourot) and sister Anita Waser.
A graduate of Cheltanham High School, Marcy was awarded a full scholarship to Vassar College to study early childhood education. Her summers were spent on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay where her mother owned and operated a co-ed summer camp for teens. Marcy was Program Director and ran the waterfront. After teaching in northern New Jersey, she chose to relocate to the American schools in Germany. She met Seawell, a U.S. Army officer stationed there; it was “love at first sight”. They married on December 29, 1961, in Philadelphia. Once in Nashville, she became a member of St. George’s Episcopal Church. She was treasurer of both the Junior League of Nashville and later the Centennial Club. Additionally, she served as President of the Friends of Cheekwood.
While raising her young children, Marcy and a friend created and hand-made thousands of glass and lead Christmas ornaments known as Eye Catchers. Returning to the working world, she joined the faculty of Harding Academy for teaching, admissions, and fund raising. Later Marcy was employed by American General for computer programing, teaching, and performance improvement. Upon retirement, she continued to use her gifts and talents to serve her family, friends, church, and community with love, enthusiasm, and creativity.
Visitation will be at St George’s Episcopal Church from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday July 9th. Celebration of her life follows on Tuesday, July 10th at 1:30 PM at St. George’s. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
