Preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Don, and parents Fred and Dee.
Marian received her BS from MTSU, MA from UT-Knoxville, and Ed.S from Vanderbilt. She taught in Metro Schools for 35 years, 24 of those at Julia Green, where she was teacher of the year three times.
A member of Delta Kappa Gamma since 1976 and DAR since 1994, Marian was also a past member of Phi Delta Kappa.
Marian worshiped at Hillsboro Church of Christ since 1996. She loved to see God’s world and traveled extensively with Don. She also loved tracing her ancestry and working with plants and flowers.
Left to mourn her passing are: her sons and daughter-in-law, Bart Whitfield and Nelson and Neila Whitfield; her grandchildren, Meredith Whitfield and fiancé Dimitar Venkov, Connor Whitfield and wife Lauren, Clayton Whitfield and Shelby Whitfield; many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank her many friends for their help and support, and they send special thanks to Pamela Hamm and Dr. Richard Garman for their care.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 28 at Woodlawn from 4:00-6:00 with a viewing from 3:30 to 4:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at Woodlawn on Sunday, July 29 at 1:00. Interment will immediately follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Lakeshore Estates fund for Indigents or St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
