She is preceded in death by her husband, Louis Joseph Bervoets, Jr.; her parents, George Joseph DeGrella and Marie Fashauer DeGrella; and her sisters, Marcia DeGrella Shaffer and Margaret DeGrella McCorkle.
Marie is survived by her children, Michael Bervoets (Lori) and Sarah Pinson (Tommy), and by her three grandchildren: Jeremy Bervoets (Adriana), Kendall Bervoets, and Carly Bervoets.
Born on April 17, 1935, in Louisville, KY, Marie graduated from St. Cecilia Academy in 1953 and later earned her R.N. degree from St. Thomas Nursing School. She began her nursing career at the V.A. Hospital and St. Thomas Hospital before joining Westside Hospital, where she served as a R.N. Supervisor until her retirement in 1997.
Marie’s love for travel began when she, her best friend Rosemary, and their dear friend, Ann, joined together on a trip to Bermuda after graduating from nursing school. In 1959, she married the love of her life, Louie, and together they explored the world, forming many friendships along the way. They also shared these adventures with their children and grandchildren, often bringing them along on their journeys.
Marie enjoyed playing Bridge and was active in multiple groups on a weekly basis. Marie also loved gardening and spent her early years involved in various garden clubs. She always took pride in nurturing the beautiful gardens that surrounded her homes. In her late sixties, she uncovered a natural gift for painting and spent almost twenty years attending weekly art classes with her son, Mike. A devout Catholic, Marie generously volunteered her time with the Ladies of Charity and at St. Henry’s Catholic Church.
A special thank you to the staff at the Harmony at Bellevue and Gentiva Hospice who loved and cared for Marie throughout her stay. We all felt your kindness and support and for that we are truly grateful.
