

Nashville – Dr. Marvin Geer Gregory, Jr., 83, passed away on December 24, 2020. He was born in Glasgow, Kentucky to Lucy Smith and Marvin Geer Gregory. He was married to his beautiful wife, Marjorie Hagel Gregory, for 51 years. Marvin was Valedictorian of the 1955 graduating class of Madisonville High School (Kentucky). Dr. Gregory completed his undergraduate studies in civil engineering at the University of Kentucky. While at the University of Kentucky, he was awarded the Chicago Tribune Gold Medal as the Air Force ROTC student who attained the highest academic standing in 1959.
Marvin went on to attend medical school at the University of Tennessee and graduated summa cum laude from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1966. Following medical school, he served as a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force stationed in the National Panama Canal Zone. Upon his honorable discharge, Marvin and his wife, Marjorie, moved to Nashville and made it their home. Dr. Gregory maintained a private medical practice with a specialty in obstetrics and gynecology. He attended the Nashville School of Law and graduated in 1987 in the top 10% of his class. He retired from the private practice of medicine in 2005 before then going on to serve as a Physician with the United States Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS).
Marvin was loving and giving of his time, especially to the those in need, actively participating in prison ministries and the spreading of the Gospel. He had an eye and a passion for antiques and was a regular at the monthly flea markets held at the Nashville Fairgrounds. He taught himself how to play the piano and was one of Nashville’s first musical saw performers.
Marvin was a long time parishioner of Immanuel Baptist Church in Nashville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Hagel Gregory, and he is survived by his three children, Diana Gregory Goldstein (Adam), Laura Gregory Warren (Leonard), and Michael Hagel Gregory (Stacey) and his six grandchildren: Emma and Noah Goldstein (Winston-Salem, NC), William and Mary Margaret Warren (Nashville, TN), and Parker and Carlin Gregory (Birmingham, AL).
A private funeral and the interment of ashes ceremony will be held at Calvary Cemetery (1001 Lebanon Pike) at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Marvin’s memory to one of the following: Immanuel Baptist Church, Overbrook School and Sarah Cannon Cancer Center.
