

Mary Ann Gilmore age 98 of Nashville Tennessee went home to be with her heavenly father on March 31,2020. Born August 23,1921 in Mouton Alabama. Mary Ann was one of twelve children and was raised in Decatur Alabama. Mary Ann is preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years John Edward Gilmore. Children, Mary Ann Kroutter, John Edward Gilmore Jr., Angela Marie Griffin Grandchild, John Kroutter Jr. (Bucky) son of Mary Ann Kroutter, Parents, Joseph and Elizabeth (Betty) Wade, Ten brothers and sisters.
Mary Ann was survived by her loving children Joseph Wade Gilmore (Sheryl), Betty Gilmore Neuhoff ( Sidney) Kathy Gilmore Bonnet (Bernard) Amy Gilmore Schmid (Albert) Daughter in law Donna Burns Gilmore (John) Sister, Nell Wade Key of Decatur Alabama, 14 loving grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren, many loving special nieces and nephews.
Mary Ann moved to Nashville in 1941 where she attended Nashville business college, met John Gilmore and married. A very loving and caring person Mary Ann had a deep love for children. In the 1950’s she would foster new born babies from the Florence Critten Home for unwed mothers. MaryAnn would take care of them for 6-8 weeks until the mother was ready to care for them. This was done at a time when she had 5 of her 7 children at home to care for. Her love for children continued throughout her life, seeing children always made her smile.
MaryAnn worked as a park director with Metro parks for many years, School Mothers Patrol at Cathedral School and St. Bernard Academy for 12 years. MaryAnn then became a licensed relator working at Joel Riggs Reality for over 30 years, were she helped place many loving families into new homes. Mary Ann left real estate and went to work at The Picnic Cafe’ owned by her daughter, Kathy. Mary Ann took much pride in working aside all the loving men and women at The Picnic were she retired at age 92. A special thanks to all the employees of The Picnic for all their love and compassion for her over many years. Mary Ann was a faithful catholic and member of St. Ann’s Church. She would attend the children’s Mass before work during the week days and sit up front at the Saturday evening Mass. There she was surrounded by many loving friends and of course, the late Father Phillip Breen.
The family would like to give a special thanks and recognition to MaryAnn’s caretaker Starr Messick. Starr showed her much love and kindness for many years, creating a better life for her. We will never forget all you did for our mother.
To all the workers and caregivers at Mary Queen of Angels, they showed her love and compassion. She felt safe and loved there for many years, we Thank each of you. A special prayer for each of you as you strive to keep your residence safe during this time.
To Alive Hospice, the volunteers the employees, they all went above and beyond for our family during this time to offer comfort, we Thank you.
During this time in our world, our priority is the safety for all who knew and loved Mary Ann. For this reason a funeral Mass to honor our mother will be at a later date. May God bless each of you and keep you safe.
