(Nashville) Mary Margaret Eller Shreeve died peacefully on January 9, 2025 surrounded by her daughter and the “Hampton Gang”, the name given to her daughter’s close friends who grew up with her on Hampton Avenue.
Born on October 24, 1935 to the late Herbert Estel Eller and Thirza Crow Eller, she is preceded in death by her spouses Edgar Allen Diddle, Jr., Jobe Pritchette Doty and George Draper Shreeve, Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Eller Diddle (Hollywood, FL), stepson George Draper Shreeve, Jr. (New York, NY), stepdaughter Susan Shreeve Springer and grandchildren, Lily Katherine and Lindy Elizabeth Springer (Nicholasville, KY).
Mary attended Ward-Belmont School and the University of Florida. Her studies at UF were cut short when her parents discovered that she, on a lark, had boarded a banana boat to frolic in Cuba. She was quickly transferred to Vanderbilt University to be closer to home.
Mary was a longtime member of Woodmont Christian Church and active in the community as a member of the Centennial Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, Fannie Battle Day Home, Santa’s Helpers, Alpha Omega Pi Alumni, the Vanderbilt Aide Society and the Advisory Board of Ward-Belmont Alumni. She enjoyed many years of golf and tennis at Hillwood Country Club, as well as numerous garden and bridge clubs. Mary was well-traveled, never missing an opportunity for adventure.
Mary will be remembered for her vivid smile, playful sense of humor and impeccable taste in all that she collected.
Her family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers from Blakeford at Home and the entire staff at Burton Court for their kindness, love and patience.
A celebration of her life will be at Woodmont Christian Church on January 31 at 2:00pm, with visitation beginning at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her honor be made to Pelican Harbor Seabird Station at www.pelicanharbor.org or to Woodmont Christian Church.
