Buddy was born to the late Matthew Francis Connolly Sr. and Helen Goode Connolly. He attended and graduated from Father Ryan High School before proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force for four years. Following his military service, Buddy began his working career with Meadow Gold. He later continued his career with Purity Dairy, where he worked as a route salesman until his retirement. Throughout the years, Buddy was known for his dedication and strong work ethic.
Outside of work, Buddy had a special love for airplanes and enjoyed collecting coins. These interests brought him great enjoyment throughout his life, but nothing compared to the love he had for his family. His family was an important part of his life, and the memories they created together will continue to be cherished for generations.
Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew Francis Connolly Sr. and Helen Goode Connolly; his son, Matthew “Chip” Connolly III; grandson, Matthew F. Connolly IV; his brothers, Merlin “Tony” Connolly and Bernard “Joe” Connolly; and his first wife, Linda Orange Connolly.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 44 years Peggy Connolly; his son Steve (Sarah) Connolly and stepdaughter Cynthia (William) Russell; his granddaughter whom he lovingly raised as his own child Brittney Mackie.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael and Ryan Connolly, Mercedes (Dylan) Jordan, Paula (Kyle) Glenn, Jacob Bishop and his special friend Jasmine Logue along with others who held a special place in his heart, as well as five great-grandchildren, extended family members, and friends.
Buddy lived 84 years filled with family, hard work, service, and the simple things that brought him happiness. Although his absence will be deeply felt, the love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the memories he created will remain with his family forever.
Matthew “Buddy” Francis Connolly Jr. will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held at Marshall- Donnelly- Combs Funeral Home, 201 25th Ave North, Nashville, TN 37203, US, on August 11, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
Visitation will also be held at St. Ann Catholic Church, 5101 Charlotte Ave, Nashville, TN 37209, US, on August 12, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Ann Catholic Church from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
A graveside service will take place at Nashville National Cemetery, 1420 Gallatin Pike S, Nashville, TN 37115, on August 12, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm.
