Mavis passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2013. Born in Humphreys County on December 11, 1925, she was predeceased by her parents, five sisters, and four brothers, and son, Michael Watson. She is survived by her sister Margaret O'Guin, daughter Michelle Potter, sons Patrick (Priscilla) Watson and Joseph Watson Jr. (Erika), six grandchildren and two great granddaughters.
Her two passions in life, outside her family and friends, were gardening and bowling. When bowling was sanctioned by the TSSAA as a high school sport, she coached the bowling teams at Father Ryan High School and, in 2007 at the age of 81, she guided the team to a state championship.
The family expresses special thanks for her longtime physician, Dr. Charles Daniels, and her faithful caregivers, Laquanta Cole and Betty Lovenstein. The family also wishes to acknowledge Alive Hospice. In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to the charity of your choice.
There will be a visitation for family and friends at 6:45 pm on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Christ the King Church, 3001 Belmont Boulevard, with a vigil service beginning at 7:30 pm. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, January 17, at Christ the King Church with Father Dexter Brewer, celebrant.
