Mayme lived in Donelson for 54 years. She retired from Metro Nashville Public Schools. She was a member of the Pennington Bend Church of Christ. She worked at the Opryland Hotel and volunteered as a member of several local women’s groups.
Once you met Mayme, you were never a stranger. She loved people, loved to help others, and wanted to volunteer her time to groups in need or crochet blankets and booties for the newborns at the hospital. She loved history and reading…perhaps because she was a direct descendant of James Robertson. When she wasn’t baking a fabulous dessert or offering to help others, she worked on arts and crafts. She was a loving wife and mother who never missed one of her sons’ ballgames. She had a green thumb and loved to grow plants and flowers. She loved antiques and collections. She appreciated the beauty of the earth and always had a good word to say about everyone. We will miss her warm smile, happy disposition, loving heart, and helpful ways. She was gone too soon, but our memories of Mayme will live in our hearts forever.
The family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Elmcroft of Lebanon where Mayme resided for the past three years. They provided her with ceaseless devotion and loving care.
A Family Visitation honoring Mayme’s wonderful life was conducted on Thursday at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home. A private family interment followed at Hermitage Memorial Gardens. Family requests donations be made in Mayme’s memory to the Pennington Bend Church of Christ, 2801 McGavock Pike, Nashville, TN 37214.
