Following his graduation from high school, Melvin proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He later went on to a long career with the United States Postal Service, where he worked until his retirement.
Melvin was married to the love of his life, Dianne Hunter, for 64 years before her passing in 2024. Together, they built a life centered around family, and there was nothing he was more proud of than his children and grandchildren.
Melvin is survived by his children, Derek Hunter (Renee), Kim Allen Harris (John), and Cary Hunter (Shannon); and his grandchildren, Nathan Hunter, Chandler Allen, Andrew Hunter, Cara Hunter, Caroline Hunter Oldweiler (Alex), and Cooper Allen; sister, Wanda Day (Ron) and brother in law, Jim South (Sandy) and a host of beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dianne Hunter, in 2024 and his brothers, Keith Hunter, Marvin Hunter and his half brother, Fred Hunter.
An avid and talented golfer, Melvin spent countless hours on the golf course and had a lifelong love for the game. He also had a one-of-a-kind hobby of collecting logo golf balls, amassing an incredible 38,000, carefully organized in egg cartons in his garage.
Melvin was happiest outdoors. He took tremendous pride in his yard and preferred being outside working to just about anything else. Even during his final year at his assisted living community, he found purpose and enjoyment in helping with the landscaping and making sure everything was kept just right.
Melvin will be remembered as a good and honest man, a devoted husband and father, a proud grandfather, and a man who found joy in family, hard work, golf, and the outdoors. His family will deeply miss his steady presence and the many memories they shared with him.
