
Michael Smoot Bligh, age 83, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on March 22, 2026. Born July 5, 1942, in Nashville, Michael was remembered as a dedicated, accomplished man whose life reflected steady purpose and quiet determination.
Michael attended Hillsboro High School and earned a degree in business administration from the University of Tennessee. He began his career with the Tennessee Department of Revenue and later attended the Federal Law Enforcement Training Academy, where he completed criminal investigator school and achieved the “Expert” designation on the firing range.
Michael went on to work as an accountant, becoming a Certified Public Accountant, and served as the Comptroller for Nashville Carpet Center. In 1989, he earned a law degree from the Nashville School of Law and practiced law for more than thirty years. He was a member of the Tennessee and Wyoming bars.
A life-long amateur radio operator (N4XH), Michael proudly earned the FCC’s top amateur license in 1976, connecting with voices and communities around the world. He also loved the western United States and realized his dream of living in Wyoming for several years.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Leslie Campbell Bligh, Sr., his mother, Virginia Smoot Bligh, and his brother, Leslie Campbell Bligh, Jr. He is survived by his children, Michael Brien Bligh (Linda) and Ellen Bligh Truley (Todd.)
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
A Gathering of Family & Friends will be held at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
