Mildred Karleen Dean

DEAN, Mildred Karleen Bullington age 94 of Nashville passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2013. Karleen was born to the late Charlie D & Lutie Mai Bullington on August 1, 1918 in Nashville, TN. She was married to Arthur Dean for nearly 41 years until his death in 1987. Survived by caring son, Charles (Debbie) Dean of Mt. Juliet; devoted daughter, Betty Dean of Nashville & loving granddaughter, Jessica Dean of Mt Juliet. Karleen graduated from Donelson High School in 1936, David Lipscomb College in 1938 and received her bachelor and master’s degrees in education from Peabody College. After teaching one year at a boarding school in Coalmont, TN, she taught at Central High School in Nashville from 1942-1971 and at McGavock High School from 1971 until her retirement in 1982. Many of her Home Economics and Food Service Management students credit her teaching for their ability to cook and manage their homes. In addition to her love of gardening and needlework, she had a passion for entertaining which led to her success in catering with her daughter Betty. Karleen had a strong foundation of faith and was the longest continuous member of Donelson Church of Christ, having been a devoted member since age 12 in 1930. Visitation will be at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home Sunday, June 30th 3pm until 9pm, Monday, July1st 2pm until 8pm. Funeral Services will be held at 11 am Tuesday, July 2nd at Donelson Church of Christ with Richard Barnett & Dr. Dean Wells officiating. Interment will follow at Mt Olivet Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be James Cato, Eddie Barnett, Richard Barnett, Charles Prime, Robert Bullington, Bill Bullington, Everett Dean, Harry Gleckler, Gary Clark & Rich Hobby. Honorary pallbearers are Dot Dorsey, Linda & Henry Brendle, Janet & Rodney Martin, Pam Clark, Brenda Miller, Pat Friedmann, Mary York, Dick Mehaffey, Elders and Deacons of Donelson Church of Christ.
