Mildred Harbison McDonald passed away at home September 6. She was born February 4, 1930 to the late George Harbison and Christine Isham Harbison. She is survived by her true love and husband of nearly 70 years, Roy L. McDonald; her sons, Shannon (Beth), Ross (Andrea), and her daughters Ann Lusk (Steve), Margaret Pond (Neil), and Ellen Yandell (Dellson); as well as by her grandchildren, Sarah Lusk, William Lusk, and Addison Pond. She is also survived by her many McDonald and Harbison nieces and nephews. Her brother, George Harbison predeceased her. A proud native Nashvillian, she attended Eakin Elementary, Cavert Junior, and West End High schools, graduating in 1948. She was involved in student government, dramatics, and the yearbook staff at West High, in addition to being a cheerleader and candidate for Miss West High. She married her childhood sweetheart in their senior year of high school, beginning what was to be a marriage of great love, devotion, and longevity. Mildred was an active member of Hillwood Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, where she served as an Elder, Sunday School teacher, and in leadership roles in Women of the Church, Presbyterian Women, and a Girl Scout troop leader. She was also active in her children's schools while making a supportive home for her husband and children. For many years she used her knowledge of her hometown as a tour guide to visitors to Nashville, receiving correspondence from many about her skills. Her family would like to thank Dr. Terry Jerkins for her excellent medical care over the years, as well as her caregiver Pat Slate for her tireless care of our mother, to her daughter-in-law Beth for the many meals she prepared for both Roy and Mildred, and to Willowbrook Hospice for their care and concern. Visitation with the family will take place Saturday, September 9, 12-2:00 at Hillwood Presbyterian Church, 6220 Hickory Valley Rd., with a Memorial service to honor the life of Mildred to follow at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to organizations close to Mildred's heart: the Nashville Humane Society, Hillwood Presbyterian Church, and The Elephant Sanctuary.
