Nancy Word Arnold of Nashville, age 64, passed peacefully at Alive Hospice on Aug 27 after a short battle with kidney cancer. Nancy was born November 9, 1949 to Frances and John Word and lived her early years in Lynchburg TN.
Nancy was the Director of Student Learning Services at Aquinas College. She earned her Bachelor and Master of Science in Human Resource Development from the University of Tennessee. Nancy’s passion was her role at Aquinas, where she helped many students find their direction and provided encouragement to them while they juggled learning and family life.
Nancy is survived by brothers Jack (Thelma) Word of Estill Springs TN, Joe (Karen) Word of Connersville IN, and Bill (Mary) Word of Nashville; a host of nieces and nephews, two great-nephews, and her childhood friend, Debbe Hill Wilson of Nashville.
Special thanks go to Father John O’Neill, the Dominican Sisters, staff and students of Aquinas College; the nurses, doctors and staff at St. Thomas West Hospital; and the Alive Hospice Residence in Nashville for providing comfort, compassion and a peaceful setting.
Visitation will be held 11:00 am September 12, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Lynchburg TN with a memorial service following at the Lynchburg Cemetery. A Memorial mass will be held at Aquinas College 12:20 pm October 10, 2014.
