Nancy Jane Seaman (aka Nance) passed away in Ashland City, Tennessee, on the morning of July 13, 2016. She was in her 90th year. Nance leaves the following family members to carry the torch: her older and only brother Charles and his wife Jolly and two children – Richard and Barbara; her three sons: Bob, Jeff and Pete and their wives – Gayle, Karen and Denise; her five grandchildren: Ryan, Kim, Kelly, Nathan and Molly; and her lone great grandchild Madeline, who came along just in time for Nance to enjoy visits from her a couple of times. Nance lived a very full and active life into her 87th year. She touched the lives of so many people outside of her family. She loved to travel, especially to Europe, where she took 1,000’s of pictures mainly of old buildings as she was fascinated by historical architecture. Her talents with a camera were equaled by her mastery of the written word which proved valuable during her 20-year career at the Smithsonian Magazine in Washington, D.C. Nance enjoyed a glass or two of Merlot on occasion and she was extremely generous to her family and many of her friends and acquaintances. She was able to make friends with almost anyone she met as she definitely “had a gift for gab.” She loved living in D.C. and took full advantage of the performance arts and all of the political intrigue that was locally available. Did I say that she developed a love for all things Russian? Nance was a symbol of independence since she ventured to D.C. in the early 70’s to start a new chapter of her life. Sadly, her independence came to an abrupt end when she suffered a stroke in late August, 2013. This event marked the beginning of her slow physical decline. If you knew Nance, you would appreciate that she would want you to celebrate her life and not mourn her passing. She was a great mother, relative and friend to many. She will never be replaced as the mold has been broken. Lift a glass…”to Nance, we’re all better off by having known you, rest in peace, you will be missed. Thanks for everything.”
