Paul David “Debo” Burns, age 64, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully surrounded by family after an illness. Born on May 4, 1961, in Nashville, Debo was the beloved son of Marie Gentry Burns and John G. Burns, both of whom preceded him in death, along with his brother, Jerry Burns.
Debo graduated from Father Ryan High School, Class of 1980, where; just like his father and brothers, he played on the football team: the Father Ryan Fighting Irish. Debo went on to attend Middle Tennessee State University. Over the years, he worked in farming, machinery, and BBQ catering, trades that reflected his strong work ethic and love of hands-on labor.
Known for his kind heart, friendly spirit, and ever-present smile, Debo was deeply devoted to his family and had a special place in his heart for neighbors and those less fortunate. He was actively involved with Room In The Inn, faithfully supporting its mission to serve those experiencing homelessness in the Nashville community.
Debo loved watching football and was a devoted fan of Notre Dame Fighting Irish football. He proudly wore his blue, green, and gold ☘️, cheering on his Irish with enthusiasm and loyalty. Above all, Debo departed this earth sober, at peace, and surrounded by those he loved.
He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Amber Marie Burns and her mother, Sonya Hobbs; his loving stepmother, Kaye Gleaves Burns; and his siblings: Jan (John) Molteni, Alvin (Pam) Burns, Anne (Lee) Lenox, Billy Burns, and Teresa (James) Creecy. He also leaves behind numerous cherished nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5th, beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by Mass at 12:00 noon at St. Edward Catholic Church, 188 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN 37211. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers are Fate Thomas, Jr., Tim Williams, Mark Curran, Joe Shelton, John Molteni, Mark Spritler, James (Buddy) Comer, and Wyndell Voorhies.
