Peggy Cowan Omohundro was born in Nashville to Chalmers and Grace Cowan on February 21, 1940, and passed away on October 20. 2025. She was a loving wife and mother and was devoted to her grandchildren. She was a champion tennis player who taught her daughters and helped coach their teams throughout their school careers. She competed nationally at the U.S. Open in the 35 division, and along with her daughter Cindy, held the title of national mother-daughter champions for ten years. In the early 90s she took on the coaching job for the Vanderbilt Women’s tennis team. In addition to competing in countless tennis tournaments, she joined her husband, Johnny in many adventures, hiking and skiing in the mountains of Wyoming and fishing off the Gulf Coast of Alabama. Peggy earned her pilot’s license since they flew often, and she loved being Johnny’s co-pilot! She had a servant’s heart and made several mission trips to Haiti. She was the epitome of a Southern Lady, who was gracious and beautiful and made everyone she met feel special.
Peggy is survived by her daughters Christy Omohundro (Kahley Malloy), Cindy Davis (Bill), Lynn Omohundro Haston (Charles), Laurie Omohundro (Scott Cone), and her grandchildren, Tyler Davis (Abby), Elizabeth Morrissey (Stephen), Thomas Sparkman, Suzy Sparkman, Jay Shackleford (Brooke) and Annie Shackleford. She also survived by multiple nieces and nephews and by great-grandchildren, Frances Davis, Emma Davis, Grace Davis, Davis Morrissey, Baker Morrissey, and two more who are expected very soon. Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Johnny of 59 years, her sister Jean Cummings, and her brother Jimmy Cowan.
