
Philip T. Welch, Jr. Age 81 of Nashville passed away at home on July 13. Born Jan. 11, 1930 in Montgomery, Al to Philip Theodore Welch, Sr. and Frances Hassell Welch. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Frances Blackmon Welch; children: Gay (Joe) Rushing, Philip T. (Denise) Welch, III, Deanna Sellers, and Lu Welch. Also, a brother Ed Welch of Montgomery.
Grandchildren: Heather, Lindsay, & Jarrett (Jennifer) Sellers; Philip T. IV & Lesley Welch; Daniel (Keri Beth), Shelby, & Andrew Rushing. Seven great grandchildren.
He developed a lifelong passion for baseball, golf, and Crimson Tide football. He was a 1950 graduate of the University of Alabama and a member of the Million Dollar Band. His first employer was IBM. After several moves with IBM, he moved his family to Nashville in 1967 to continue his sales career.
He became active in the Crieve Hall church of Christ and Crieve Hall Youth Athletics. He influenced the lives of many young people coaching football, softball, and baseball. He enjoyed coaching his children, watching his grandchildren play sports, and excel in their studies.
Even in later years, Mr. Welch built, sold, and serviced computers. Seldom did he miss watching the Atlanta Braves and Crimson Tide. Visitation is Saturday from 12:30 until time of the funeral at 2:30 at Woodlawn Funeral Home. Joe Rushing and Dan Gilbert will officiate. Memorials may be made to Creive Hall church of Christ benevalence or charity of one's choice.
