Richard Edward Carter, Jr passed away at the age of 75 in his home Tuesday July 11, 2018. His friends and family knew him as Dicky. He attended Donelson High School and was a character to all who had a chance to get to know him. Family and friends knew him as a generous man with a sense of humor like no other. Dicky served and was honorably discharged from the United States Army, serving his country as an infantryman. While stationed in Germany he served as Military Police during the Vietnam era. During his service with the Army he qualified as a sharpshooter and obtained 3 ribbons for good conduct. After serving in the military, Dicky married Marilyn Jean Colgate and went to work at the family’s hardware store. Upon retirement, Dicky had made it to Vice-President of Carter Hardware. An intuitive business man, Dicky is responsible for opening the first video store for movies and games in Nashville, TN. A member of the American Legion as well as a loyal NRA member, he certainly enjoyed collecting, shooting or just talking about guns with a special interest in antique and unique firearms.
