Richard Dennis McDowell

Richard Dennis McDowell, 54, a native of Nashville, TN, passed away in Nashville on October 20, 2011. Preceded in death by his grandparents Roscoe B. and Mary (Boyer) McDowell and Thomas W. and Mamie (Bright) Cobb; parents Robert A. and Marilyn Patricia (Cobb) McDowell; survived by brothers Randall David McDowell and Robert A. McDowell, Jr., nieces Patricia McDowell Scott (Worth), Jennifer Rachel McDowell, and Emma Bright McDowell; and other family members.

Dennis attended grade school at The Oak Hill School and was a graduate of Battle Ground Academy, Class of 1975. He then earned a business degree from Belmont College.

Dennis enjoyed a successful career as a general contractor, with special interest for estimating and hands-on project management. His success allowed him a great deal of time to pursue his loves of golf, tennis, travel, and service to his church.

As an active member of Woodmont Christian Church, he served as a Deacon and Board Member, participated in management of the church finances as well as other programs including Tools for Schools, Room at the Inn, and Wednesday Night Bible Study. He also committed much of his time supporting Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Boy Scouts of America, and Hillsboro High School Football.

The family will receive friends Sunday, October 23rd from 5p.m. - 8p.m. and Monday, October 24th from 9a.m. - 10:30 a.m. at Woodmont Christian Church.The funeral service will be conducted at the church at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Honorary pallbearers: Battle Ground Academy class of 1975. Active pallbearers:John Carpenter, Rick Clark, Jim Easter, Bill Heyne, Randy Luther and Lou Todd.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Youth Christian Education at Woodmont Christian Church, 3601 Hillsboro Road, Nashville, TN 37215 in Dennis's name.
