Rita was born on May 12, 1930 in Webster, Massachusetts where she spent her formative years. She graduated from Barlett High School. Rita had fond memories of her best friend Frannie Gilmartin, and it was with Frannie on a blind double date that she met her husband Warren Adlerz. They were married in Worcester Massachusetts on May 30, 1952.
After marriage, they settled in Corvallis, Oregon. In Corvallis, Warren completed his PhD in entomology at Oregon State University and Rita worked in the university hospital admitting department. Their son Cliff was born in Corvallis. After graduation, Warren accepted a research position as a professor for the University of Florida, and the family moved to Leesburg, Florida. Rita had wonderful memories of her time in Florida where she continued working in hospitals and became a swim team mom for her grateful son, Cliff. She was particularly happy during vacations with her sister, Roberta Thompson, and Roberta’s husband Clif.
Later in life, Rita resided at the Cumberland Green Hills, the staff and residents becoming an extended family. Rita enjoyed the social activities, particularly evenings spent playing Rummikub with her friends. She loved listening to the many musical offerings at the Cumberland, and would frequently coax the musicians to play her and Warren’s favorite song, “Some Enchanted Evening”.
After hearing her favorite song one last time the morning of April 19, 2016, Rita passed away peacefully with her family at her side.
Rita will be remembered for her outgoing manner and quick wit, always ready with a joke or humorous comment.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Stella and George Eddy, her husband, Dr. Warren Adlerz and brother-in-law, Clif Thompson.
Rita is survived by her devoted son Cliff, daughter-in-law, Kathleen, and granddaughters, Katrina and Alicia Adlerz. In Hartford, CT., her sister, Roberta Thompson, niece Kim Thompson, nephew, Bret Thompson and his family survived her.
Rita will be buried in Worcester, Mass. At All Saints Cemetery next to her late husband Warren, during a family service.
