Robert Edwin Wakefield

Robert Edwin Wakefield, age 84 passed away on November 13, 2017. He was born on March 18, 1933 in the Bethel Community near Santa Fe, TN. Preceded in death by his parents, Robert Paul and Emma Tommie (Still) Wakefield, Prospect, TN; brother, Mack Wakefield, Athens, AL; brother-in-law Tommy Triplett, Union City, TN. Survived by sister, Carol Ann Triplett of Union City, TN; sister-in-law Rose Wakefield of Athens, AL; nephew, Jeff (Teri) Triplett of Madisonville, KY; nieces, Jane Ann (Richard) Hicks of McEwen, TN, Jennifer (David) Evans of Athens, AL and Leslie (Aaron) Cottles of Athens, AL; two great nephews and six great nieces. Edwin graduated from Central High School, Columbia, TN in 1951 and Tennessee Tech University, Cookeville, TN in 1955. He later served as president of the National Alumni Association for the University. He was a member of the ROTC program and upon graduation served his country for two years in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant in the Signal Corp. Edwin began and ended his professional career with BellSouth, where he worked for 33 years as a Traffic Supervisor and Engineer. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and the president of the Nashville Jaycees. Edwin was a faithful member of Woodmont Baptist Church for 57 years where he served as longtime Deacon, Church Clerk, Senior Adult Coordinator, and member of the J.O.Y. Choir. Celebration of Life Service will be on Friday, November 17, 2017 at eleven o’clock in the morning, Woodmont Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Sherman officiating. Honorary pall bearers will be the Senior Men’s Fellowship. Interment will follow the service in Cave Springs Cemetery, Bethel, TN. Gathering of family and friends will be at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home on Thursday evening from four o’clock until seven o’clock in the evening, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
