Rob was born in Nashville to Quitman Robins and Alma Elizabeth Stevenson Ledyard. He earned his B.A. degree from Vanderbilt University and his J.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Law. He began his law practice with The National Life and Accident Insurance Company, which became NLT. He was General Counsel. In 1980 he joined the law firm of Bass, Berry & Sims as a partner. He served his country as a United States Marine. He was a member of the American Bar Association, the Federation of Regulatory Counsel, Belle Meade Country Club, and St. Henry Catholic Church. Rob was an avid reader and a determined bridge player.
He was predeceased by his son Quitman Robins Ledyard II. He is survived by his wife Julia Bordeaux Gambill Ledyard, his son and daughter-in-law Stevenson Gambill and Janie Burke Ledyard, and his daughter Margaret Dabney Ledyard. He is survived by his three grandchildren: Alexander Ledyard Hopkirk, William Ian Hopkirk, and Julianne Louise Hopkirk. He is also survived by his sisters Caroline Ledyard Hays and Anne Stevenson Ledyard.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 27, in the narthex at St. Henry’s from 4-6 pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, January 28, at 10:30 am, with burial to follow at Harpeth Hills. Pall Bearers will be: Clark D. Baker, William F. Blaufuss, Roy E. Claverie, Laurence DeFrance, Dr. William M. Gavigan, Steven J. Mason, James R. Tuerff, Joseph P. Williams, Martin F. McNamara, C. Norris Nielsen, A. Wylie McDougall, John W. McDougall, T. Stephen C. Taylor, and Dickson Williams.
