Rosamond Thayer Gant

Rosamond T. Gant --Age 77, of Nashville, TN. Roz passed away surrounded by family at 11:40AM on Friday April 27th, 2012 after her recent battle with lung cancer. Roz was born in Hopedale, MA on August 20, 1934. Her parents were the late Hamilton Webster Thayer and Elizabeth Wood Thayer of Hopedale, MA. Roz is survived by her husband of 37 years, Norwood J. Gant of Nashville, TN; her two sons James L. Jackson III and Joseph Daniel Jackson; grandchildren Jamison Danielle Jackson and Chase Joseph Jackson; her sister Harriet T. Elder of Nashville, and brother William Hamilton Thayer of Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Roz grew up in Hopedale, Massachusetts and attended The Dana Hall School in Wellesley, MA and went on to college at The University of Colorado in Boulder were she studied to become a teacher. After teaching and then raising her family she became Director of Volunteers at the Martha O’Bryan Center for 22 years. Roz was very active in helping others and did extensive work with adult literacy programs, Meals on Wheels, and was most recently active in retirement as a volunteer with the Baptist Breast Cancer Center counseling others as a breast cancer survivor. While there she was honored as being named Baptist’s first Volunteer of the year after giving 635 hours of service. Roz was a very active member of Hillsboro Presbyterian Church and donated time with them as well as TPAC, REP, and the Frist Center for the Arts. Roz touched everyone lucky enough to meet her and was known for finding the greatest pleasures in the simplest things in life. Visitation will be held at Hillsboro Presbyterian Church located at 5820 Hillsboro Road on Friday May 4th from 6 to 8 PM. There will be a small family graveside service at Woodlawn Funeral Home at 10AM on Saturday, May 5th. A Celebration of Roz’s Life will be held at Hillsboro Presbyterian Church on Saturday May 5th, at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Alive Hospice, or Hillsboro Presbyterian Church Mission Fund.
