Ross Irwin Evans Jr.
June 20, 1933 – June 9, 2018
Nashville - Ross Irwin Evans, Jr., age 84, son of the late Ross I. and Elizabeth McConnell Evans. He is preceded in death by grandson Hampton Evans. Survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Patricia Camp Evans, daughter Libby Shell (Tommy), son Ross Evans III (Nan) and son Lee Evans, grandchildren Anna Emerson (Shane), Lizzy Caldwell (Fletcher), Morgan Evans, Preston Evans, and Chelsea Walker, and great grandchildren Rosie and Miller.
Ross was born in Nashville and attended Overbrook, Montgomery Bell Academy, and McCallie School in Chattanooga. He then attended Sewanee and Vanderbilt before moving to Chattanooga to work for the Chattanooga Royal Company. He returned to Nashville in 1960 where he had a long career in residential and commercial real estate, working for Edwin Raskin Co. and Fred Pilkerton Co. before going into business for himself.
Ross was a member of Nashville First Baptist Church, where he relished worship and the fellowship of other congregation members. He was a longtime member of Bible Study Fellowship. He was one of the founding members of the Nashville Garden Railway Society and enjoyed building and exhibiting G-scale train layouts. He was a gifted artist and loved painting with his friends at Centennial Arts Center. He will be remembered as an exemplary southern cook and foremost critic in the kitchen where he held court during family gatherings. He delighted in his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery on Wednesday June 13th at 10:00 a.m.
Ross Evans III, Lee Evans, Preston Evans, Tommy Shell, Shane Emerson, Fletcher Caldwell and Jody Johnson will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ross's name may be made to Nashville First Baptist Church or a charity of your choice
