

BILLINGSLEY, Sadie Beasley Gregory passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 29, 2011, after a long illness. Sadie was born in Riddleton, TN on March 8, 1923, the daughter of the late Charles Henry and Sadie Beasley Gregory. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Dorris Bradford Billingsley; sisters, Baker Gregory Cayce, and Betty Gregory Turner; brothers, Charles Clinton Gregory, James Taylor Gregory, Isham Duke Gregory and Ellis Beasley Gregory. Survived by daughters, Betty Billingsley Nicks (Jim) of Franklin, and Barbara Billingsley Blackman (Steve) of Nashville; grandson, Bradford Clennon Blackman (Hope) of Mt. Juliet, granddaughters Sarah Nicks Dubois (Daniel) of Nashville, Rachel Nicks Nix (Charlie) of Flowery Branch, Georgia, and Rebecca Blackman Leeper (Andrew) of Burleson, Texas; and great-grandchildren Annie and Greg Blackman, Madeline and Benjamin Dubois, Abigail and Caroline Nix; sisters, Will Neil Gregory Watts (Exum) of Murfreesboro and Rebecca Gregory Daimwood of Columbia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Sadie graduated from David Lipscomb Junior College, where she was involved in numerous campus activities and was May Queen. She then graduated from George Peabody College. She and Dorris married in 1947 and lived in Nashville where he ministered as a gospel preacher until his death in 2007. She was a member at the Heritage Church of Christ. She was a charter member of the Lipscomb Lea Garden Club and Mardi Amis. She was active in the Green Hills Home Demonstration Club, was a wonderful cook, seamstress, flower arranger, hostess, and caregiver. Most of all, she was dedicated to her family. The family wishes to express its gratitude to caregiver Twila Pettis for the love and support she showed Sadie during her final months. A funeral service will be conducted at Woodlawn on Saturday December 31 at 10:00 by son-in-law Steve Blackman with internment at Mount Olivet. Pallbearers include Brad Blackman, Daniel Dubois, Charlie Nix, Andrew Leeper, Sam King, Zach King, Greg Watts, and Greg Daimwood. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to World Christian Broadcasting or Churches of Christ Disaster Relief.
