

Samuel Porter Holt, Sr. age 89 of Porter Road in Nashville, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016, at his home. He was born February 1, 1927 in Nashville, Tennessee, to Margaret Faulds Black and Jere Baxter Holt, Sr. He proudly served in World War II as a Marine. He was one of the founders of Hold Brothers, Inc. and touched the lives of countless people. Sam is survived by his wife, Martha Benet Holt; five daughters, Joan Wright (Jon), Jane McCalmont (Bob), Carolyn Pratt (Sam), Melissa House (Roger), and Michelle Cole (Bobby); three sons, Sam P. Holt, Jr., Jere Preston Holt (Vicki), and David Holt (Susan); two step-daughters, Mary Davis and Lisa Kryza; step-son, Rick Gerontis (Mary); fourteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many friends and fishing buddies. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Frances Marie Ford; brothers, John Holt and Jere Baxter Holt, Jr.; and sisters, Margaret and Susan. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home at eleven-thirty in the morning with Pastors Kenny Butcher of Brush Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Don Hutchinson of First United Methodist Church, Hendersonville, presiding. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alive Hospice, Nashville, or Brush Hill Church.
