Sarah was born on August 20, 1942, in Sheffield, Alabama, to Helen Roberta Snyder and James Lewis Snyder. She grew up in north Alabama and later attended the University of Alabama, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science—a foundation that would shape her lifelong commitment to advocacy and service.
On November 25, 1965, Sarah married the love of her life, Harry Lee Hall III, in Sheffield, Alabama. Together they built a life rooted in curiosity, laughter, and deep care for others.
Throughout her life, Sarah’s adventurous spirit and fun-loving nature shaped the moments she cherished most. She loved exploring new places and cultures, took great pride in cheering on Alabama football and Vanderbilt basketball, and found peace tending to her yard. She especially treasured time spent with friends, relaxing at the family lake house in Muscle Shoals, and settling in with a good book. Whatever the setting, Sarah embraced life with openness, humor, and genuine curiosity.
Her exploratory spirit and strong sense of justice found meaningful expression through her volunteer work at the Nashville Crisis Center from 1990 to 1994. That work led her to help support the launch of the organization’s TennCare Advocacy Program in 1994. As leader of the Outreach program, Sarah played a vital role in educating hospitals, clinics, and communities across Tennessee about changes in health care benefits. She represented the state at Families USA, a national patient advocacy conference, where she spoke with advocates about Tennessee’s efforts to help families navigate complex systems of care. By the time Sarah retired in 2007, the program had grown to a staff of 76 dedicated to helping Tennesseans understand Medicare, Medicaid, and options for the uninsured.
Through both her professional and personal life, Sarah was known for being outspoken, funny, and deeply compassionate. She had a profound love of art, theater, and travel, and a remarkable gift for turning shared experiences into lasting memories. She will be deeply remembered and dearly missed.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and James Snyder; her husband, Harry Lee Hall III; and her sister, Nancy Stevens.
She is survived by her sons, Bradley (Martha) Hall and Andrew Hall; her grandchildren, Thomas (Katelyn) Hall, Helen Hall, Harry (Chel) Hall, Emma Hall, Evelyn Hall, and Grace Hall; and her great-grandchildren, Jacob Hall and Henry Hall.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. CT at Sportsman’s Lodge Tavern & Grille, 1640 Westgate Circle, Brentwood, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Nashville Public Radio (WPLN) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
