Sarah Ann Frost Stamps, born in Nashville on November 2, 1926 to Anna Cooper Frost and Dr. Norman Frost passed away August 21st at Richland Place. Her family would like to thank the staff for their loving care of her and of us. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of fifty-one years, Richard Phelps Stamps and her brother Norman Cooper Frost. She is survived by her daughters Sallie Swor (Sammy), Mary Gambill (Tom), Martha Stamps, and her grandchildren Richard Swor (Lauren), Keith Gambill (Natalie), Phelps Gambill, Moriah Williams, Sadie Reed, and John Mark Reed. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Dory Ingram, Bob Stamps, Kathy Muma, and Norman Frost. She graduated from Peabody Demonstration School (USN), and Vanderbilt University, before receiving her master’s degree from Columbia University. She worked at The Methodist Publishing House and later taught at Harpeth Hall School. When she spoke of “her girls” that included many more than her three daughters.
Sarah Stamps was a life-long member of West End United Methodist Church. She was also a member of Query Club, Colonial Dames, Town and Country Garden Club, Centennial Club, Shandygaff, and Friends of Radnor Lake. She volunteered for anything involving her daughters, including Girl Scouts, school volunteer, and teaching Sunday School. She was a talented seamstress creating costumes for plays at Nashville Children’s Theater, as well as beautiful clothing for her children and grandchildren. Her daughters knew they had the best dressed Barbies in town! She loved cooking, gardening, walking in the woods with her basset hounds, reading, writing poetry, and was an avid genealogist.
The service will be Wednesday, August 24th at 12:00 PM at West End United Methodist Church with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to West End United Methodist Church, The University School of Nashville, Harpeth Hall School, Friends of Radnor Lake, or the charity of your choice.
