It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Selma J. Gasser, who peacefully left us on February 7, 2025, at the age of 98. Born in Basel, Switzerland, Selma lived a life full of warmth, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to her family, friends, and community. Her legacy of love and devotion will be cherished forever.
In 1953, Selma married Bernard Gasser, the love of her life, in New York, after making the courageous decision to move to the United States. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Their shared values created a welcoming home and a close-knit family.
A passionate traveler, Selma found joy in exploring new places and creating lasting memories with her loved ones. Her adventures took her near and far, always happiest when surrounded by family and friends. An avid reader, Selma had a deep curiosity about the world, especially when reading National Geographic, which sparked her interest in diverse cultures and nature's wonders.
Selma was also a proud member of the Swiss Society of Nashville, where she enjoyed sharing her heritage and connecting with others. Asher, her beloved cat, was a constant companion, often found lounging nearby while she read.
Selma will be remembered for her vibrant sense of humor, ability to lighten any room, and legendary cooking skills. Her BLTs were a family favorite, and her homemade stroganoff was unparalleled, always bringing family and friends together around the table for hearty meals and great conversation.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Gasser. Selma’s memory will live on in the hearts of her son, Eric Gasser (Kathy, daughter-in-law), grandchildren Robin Gasser and Megan Gasser (Cas Lush), and great-grandchildren Kennedy Lush and Owen Lush.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM. Burial will be Monday, March 17, 2025 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your favorite charity.
Selma’s love, light, and laughter will continue to guide us, and she will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Rest in peace, dear Selma.
