On Saturday, June 28, 2025, Shaun Durden, age 42, passed peacefully at home. He "reached the end of the race and received the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us" (Philippians 3:14). He is preceded in death by his father, Brian Durden; grandfathers, Howard Durden and Raymond Russell; and grandmother, Phyllis Russell. Shaun was a beloved son, grandson, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend. His magnetic personality endeared him to everyone. Despite facing physical challenges since birth, he never complained and accepted every situation with grace. Like the Apostle Paul, he embodied the spirit of Philippians 4:11: "Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content."
Though he was known to be quiet and unassuming, Shaun was always thoughtful of others. Even in the face of unkindness, he demonstrated Christ-like forgiveness. He enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and professional wrestling with his friends. He deeply loved his family and cherished his church family at Northside Church of Christ. The highlight of each week was his time spent at church on Sunday mornings, and he always felt disappointed if he had to miss it.
Shaun is survived by his mother and stepfather, Pam and Brian Bruce; his sisters, Lauren Durden and Kaitlyn (Chris) Ramirez; stepbrothers, Zac (Morgan) Bruce and Ben (Nicole) Bruce; stepsister, Autumn (Tyler) Humbles; along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
