Loving Mother and devoted Christian, Sherytha Eleanor Scaife, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, surrounded by her family on Tuesday November 27, in Nashville, Tennessee. From humble beginnings in Helena, Arkansas, Sherytha was the beautiful and glamorous embodiment of the American dream. Her career began in Nashville, Tennessee as the first Curator of The Country Music Hall of Fame. In 1974, Sherytha and her late husband Cecil Scaife pioneered several independent record labels on Music Row including Songs of Faith, Halo and Classic Christmas. Their company Music Incorporated was one of the longest running success stories on The Row. Throughout her career Sherytha received numerous awards for her natural ability to shine in a male-dominated industry, including the 2010 Source Award as well as for her philanthropic spirit. She is recognized as a “Women of Country Music” distinguished member by the Musicians Hall of Fame and was a proud Belmont Mansion Board Member and President. Sherytha, known by her grandchildren as “Mama Refa” was a true example of Southern gentility and grace. With the help of her confidant and friend Mary Norris, Sherytha opened up her home, heart and kitchen to all. Among her many spiritual gifts she felt great joy when giving and caring for others. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Nashville, where she lived a life of servitude. Her favorite pastimes included entertaining, shopping and sunbathing in Florida. Sherytha is survived by her daughters, LaQuita Scaife, LaRawn Rhea (Richard), LaQuela Barnett-Cude (Andy), son Joe Scaife (Danielle), grandchildren Ashley Smiley Gatlin, Amber Simms, Joe Smiley, Alexa Barnett, Jaela Scaife and Tristan Scaife and great-grandchildren Alli Beth Baggett, Jackson Baggett and Mackenzie Gatlin. Services will be held Saturday, December 1st, at Mt Olivet Funeral Home, 1101 Lebanon Pike, Nashville, TN. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. followed by the Celebration of Life, and oh what a life she lived. Friends and associates from the Nashville Community are welcome.
