Shirley Bondurant Moore Harvey, age 85, passed away on Monday, February 4, 2019, in Nashville TN, surrounded by her loved ones.

Shirley was born April 3, 1933, in Greenville, Mississippi to Malcolm Knox Moore and Ruth Ligon. She attended Washington Seminary, a founding school of Westminster School in Atlanta, GA. Shirley earned a degree in psychology and a certificate in audiology and speech pathology at Vanderbilt University.

For several years, Mrs. Harvey worked at Vanderbilt University as an officer in the department of alumni and development. Later, she became a realtor for Sharon Langford & Associates (now Bob Parks Realty). After retiring, Shirley assisted her daughter, Amy, in managing her furniture consignment shop.

Through the years, Shirley was an active community volunteer on many fronts. She chaired the 1976 Swan Ball and the 1989 Antique Show to benefit Cheekwood Botanical Gardens and Fine Arts. She was Chairman of the Palm Sunday Paper Sale for Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, Chairman of the Association of Junior Leagues, Inc. and Chairman of the YWCA Membership Campaign. Mrs. Harvey served on the Board of Directors and was Secretary for the TN Leadership Alumnae Association. She also served on the Board of Directors for YWCA, Alcohol and Drug Council of Middle TN, Senior Citizens, Harding Academy, Vanderbilt Alumni Association, Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, Friends of Children’s Hospital, Junior League of Nashville, Greater Metro Nashville Safety Council and Fannie Battle Day Home. Shirley was a member of St. George’s Episcopal Church and Belle Meade Country Club, where she enjoyed her “Girls’ Group” lunch gatherings and dinners with friends.

In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her son, Captain Charles Knox Harvey and her former husband of 27 years, Fred Harvey Jr.

Shirley is survived by her children, Fred Harvey and Amy Bondurant Harvey, her grandchildren, Amber Russell, Dorothea Copeland, Nic Harvey and 4 great grandchildren.

Quite simply, Shirley was an elegant Lady, who was honest, compassionate, courageous and independent. Her classic beauty and grace was an inspiration to those who knew her. She will be greatly missed.

It was Shirley’s request that a private memorial service be held to celebrate her life.

Shirley was a beautiful, classy lady and I am sure she will be missed by all. She was my second mother for years as I grew up with the Harvey family. Heaven is rewarded with such a great spirit and I am sure that she has reunited with Charles and together they are catching up on old times. Thoughts and prayers from the Thomas Family.

No one lit up the room as Mrs Harvey did. She is and will always be a shinning star when I think of her. She will be missed. So sorry for your loss. Prayers to all of the Harvey Family.
