my dad charles todd worked with your dad for a number of years at ferro fiberglass. He thought of your dad as a good friend.My dad passed May 12th 2010 your dad came and paid his respects,we thank him for this. my mom is very sadden over your loss but hope they are together after all true friends are forever

Rebecca and other loved ones of our Marine brother, Si: George Reymond said it very well for all his brothers at the barracks. I met Rebecca at our Quantico reunion, and I'm sure Si's other kin are just as nice. There is an empty space in all of our hearts now. May God comfort you in the days ahead in your sorrow.

I was filled with a profound sense of loss when I learned of the passing of my dear friend Si Hood.  I am one of the many Marines that spent 4 years with Si at Marine Barracks, Ft. Meade, MD and we all cherish our special memories of our good friend. Si and I both had a strong interest in Civil War History and spent many a weekend visiting the old battlefields.  I said good bye to Si in 1965 and did not see him again until 2008 when we were together at our Barracks reunion at Quantico, Virginia. What a wonderful time that was!

Our reunion was made all the more special because we both were accompanied by one of our daughters. Rebecca, my daughter Meredith and I enjoyed meeting you and having the opportunity to share stories about the years your dad and I spent together. I know that this has to be a very difficult time for you and the rest of your family.  Please know that there is much sadness across the nation tonight as your dad's friends reflect back on all the good times we had with your father.
To you Si, I can only say that I firmly believe that one day we will stand beside each other again when the roll is called. Rest now my friend....  George Reymond, Dover, Oh

I'm so sorry to hear about Si.  I love ya'll like family and am praying that God will send some comfort for you sooner than later.

I have never met Si's wife and children because the last time that I saw Si was around 1970 I think. He was living in an apartment out in west Nashville and my sister lived near there and he came by and we talked for awhile. We were Best friends in the mid to late 50's and we attended Howard High together. We spent so much time together that his family almost seemed like my own family. We worked in tobacco up in Franlin some and hunted together and spent a lot of time together. He was the Best and true friend that I have ever had. He was a very exceptional person. I lost track of him and I couldn't find a phone number and so I never heard from him. I just happened to see the notice of his passing in the paper and I was very shocked.
I will miss him; just knowing that he has passed on and I will never forget him and that he was a very good person and a TRUE FRIEND!!! My condollences to his family and may God help you all at this time of sorrow.

So saddened to hear about Si's passing this weekend.  I know you have been in the thick of it for many months - a lot of heartache and sorrow.  I'm just so struck by the photos, John, how much you resemble your Dad, down to the tilt of your head!  What a sweet legacy.  We love  you both, and are thinking of you during this heartwrenching time.

May GOD be with the Hood family in this time of need. May you  have comfort in knowing the kind of life he lived as a husband, father and friend. He will be missed by all. Semper Fi Brother

I just wanted to take a moment to tell you that Tom Kiniry contacted me tonight, regarding your Dad passing away.
 
Your Dad,..... Tom Kiniry, George Reymond, Bill Talaber, and i, served together for 4 years.  I'm sure you have heard all the stories from Dad about us, and the other 200 guys..... those who i could not list them all..... here.
 
What you may not know is, the amazing attachment those of us who served in at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland, had for each other.    It was unique.
 
You see, in the 24 year history of Marines serving at Marine Barracks - Fort George G. Meade, there were never more than 3,000 men stationed there from the United States Marine Corps during all those years.  
 
There were also never more than 225 at any one time (or year).  Many of the core group of 225,....like us, served for 4 years.
 
In order to even serve the way we did, in a place as 'exclusive' as the N ational S ecurity A gency   
This was all done by "special agents" of the government, and there was no certainty at being selected, even after all that work was done. After we started serving at Marine Barracks, of course they continued to check on us, all through our tour. 
 
Those of us who were chosen, were selected because we were the best of the best.      Meaning....if you already were a United States Marine, and then you were chosen for this special duty, after about a 2 month investigation (while we were in boot camp), ... then we realized (over time), that we were the best.
 
Not many of us ever talk about that, or the 'on-going' selection process, or about being ....the best of the best. 
 
But sometimes it's worth telling someone. This time, i am taking the opportunity, to tell you that your Dad was one of the best of the best selected.  He was all that - and more.  
 
His mission at the N. S. A. cannot be discussed here, or anywhere, or...ever...for that matter.    His role within the compounds of the N. S. A. will never be written about, never be discussed in the hallways of Congress, or show up in any movie.
 
What i can say about us and your Dad is this.......He was about the best Marine i ever met.   As far as America being safe while he served with us, you can count on the fact that everyone could sleep well at night,.... during his tour of duty.
 
Looking back on those days and times, it's often forgotten that a few things happened along the way, while we were there, on our 'watch'. 
 
i can name a 'couple.'
 
* The Bay Of Pigs Invasion by JFK
* The Cuban Crisis
* The Berlin Crisis
* JFK being shot
* the beginning of the Vietnam War
* "DAILY" crisis's over the USSR having the nuclear bomb, and spy's,.....and all the threats that went with that...EVERY DAY !
 
What was our role in all of that?  Well, that is the part i cannot talk about. We 'all' simply dismiss any talk about that, and just change the subject, or make things up to tell our family. 
 
What i can say in closing is, because your Dad was one of the 'chosen men' from the ranks of the Marine Corps, America never fell.... under any of those challenges during his tour.
 
Today that small fact is overlooked by everyone.     It's the old story of....."no one ever tells you anything, when your doing the right thing.'   
He did the right thing, every day, of every year, in every way. 
 
There is no way to explain clearly how proud we all were to be selected to the role we played during those days.  It's just as interesting how quiet we all had to be about the role we were chosen to fulfill - through the years - (including being careful,..... as i am writing this to you    ;-}     REALLY !
 
I have never served with a better man, a more gracious and gentle man, or a more tenacious warrior than your Dad.  He was 'special' - among the best of the best.
 
Like the men who knew him as i did, we loved your Dad. There is no question about that at all, ....or ever.
 
In-fact, beyond the truth that your Dad is my brother for life because we are Marines, i can say openly and honestly that i loved your Dad more than my own brother.  Yes,...I love my own brother, but when it comes to the men i served with, .......the love i have for them, is not even close to anyone else.
 
In closing, i will say this.  There are few people in the world who can look back on their lives and say;........ " i made a difference."  
 
I can tell you now that, even though we could never speak about it......" Your Dad made a huge difference in the world, by being with us, and by us, being with him."

I met Si in 1962 while in the Marines. We served four years together. He was a very close and loyal friend. We could pass hours just talking, just being with each other, sharing our life stories. We visited each others homes, hitch-hiking all the way to Nashville and back on a weekend. He showed me the fine points of boxing, and I shared my books with him -"Catcher in the Rye" being one of our favorites. He was a quiet and mild man,
listened more than he spoke, yet he had undaunted courage when called upon.
They say you can judge a man by his friends. Si's friendship certainly helped me. I will miss him, but never forget him.
