

SENTER, Sue Bolling, age 91 Died Tuesday, November 22, 2011. Preceded in death by parents James Allen and Anne Bolling Senter, and brother, James Allen Senter, Jr. Sue was in the first graduating class of West High School in 1939. She attended Tarbox School and George Peabody College. She began her teaching career at Isaac Litton and taught art at Hillwood High School until her retirement in 1983. She always encouraged art students to participate in contests and to continue their art involvement. Sue illustrated work published in the Tennessee Historical Society Quarterly. She was artistic herself, enjoyed knitting, making her own clothes, and painting portraits and landscapes. She taught children in Sunday School at Immanuel Baptist Church and continued to be secretary of the 5th-6th grade Children’s Department until about seven years ago. She is the last surviving family member of the charter members of Immanuel Baptist Church, which will celebrate its 125th anniversary December 12, 2012. She led the Grigsby Class ministry to Bordeaux Long-term Care for many years. She also had a strong interest in missions, both at home and international. Sue was a life member of the Robert Cooke Chapter of DAR and was Director of the Cumberland District DAR from 1986 through 1989. She was also a member of the Prudence Hall Chapter Daughters of American Colonists and Thomas Hart Benton Chapter of the Daughters of 1812, having served all of these organizations in a variety of offices. She was an avid genealogist, doing research not only concerning her own family but helping many others with research. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, November 28, 2011 at Immanuel Baptist Church, 222 Belle Meade Blvd. with visitation from 10a .m. until service time at the church. Interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the Missions Budget at Immanuel Baptist Church. Arrangements under the direction of Marshall Donnelly Combs Funeral Home, Nashville, Tennessee.
