Valera Bailey Jones

Valera Bailey Jones passed away peacefully on March 6, 2024. She was born on October 12, 1935, in Memphis, TN to the late Valera Hudson Bailey and William Pierce Bailey. She grew up in northern Mississippi and graduated from Holly Springs High School in Holly Springs, MS. She graduated from Millsaps College in Jackson, MS where she met her husband, the late Rev. George Kenneth Jones.

Valera was a caseworker for the state of Tennessee for many years. She and George retired to live in Murfreesboro, TN. Valera enjoyed her grandchildren, travel, walking at Patterson Park Community Center, hiking, and running.

She was an avid and accomplished runner with the Nashville Striders and participated in regional and national senior games for many years.

Valera had a lifelong love of the United Methodist Church and was a member of St. Marks UMC in Murfreesboro, TN.

Valera is survived by her daughter, Susan, sons Ken (Vicky) and George (Sallie), and grandchildren Maria, Ezra, Kathleen, Amanda, and Mary, and two great grandchildren, Norah (Maria) and Everett (Ezra).

A visitation for Valera will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204, followed by a celebration of life from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
