Vema Smith Minor, age 89 of Brentwood, TN passed away peacefully on Saturday May 25, 2019. She was preceded in death by parents Edwin L. Smith and Lurline Wall Smith Adkins and her brother Russell Lucian Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Philip Wayne Minor. She is survived by her daughter Lynee’ (Jim) Durham and granddaughter Allison (Fiance’ Lewis Rogers), her son Randall Minor and children Taylor (Clint) Clark, Nathan Minor (Fiancée Jade Price), Kelsey (Stephen) Brennan, Davis Minor and great-grandson Henry Clark. Vema was born in the Old Hickory area of Nashville, TN and as a young girl her family moved to Cumberland Furnace, TN. She is a graduate of Central High School and an alum of Austin Peay State University. As a young newlywed, Vema worked as the Postmaster in Cunningham, TN. Later, she and her husband Philip moved to Nashville where she began a career in banking with First American National Bank (Regions). Her career progressed and she ultimately retired on March 31,1995 as a Vice President. She helped numerous individuals and businesses during her time there. She was recognized with a number of awards for her performance. She served as Chairman of Ways and Means for the American Business Women’s Association. She was direct, funny and she would surprise you with her quick-witted comments. Her joy was her family and she was known to the grandchildren and her great-grandchild as “Mimi”. She loved music like Manheim Steam Roller, Allison Krause, and Elvis. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. As a mother she was fearless and protective and as a grandmother, she spoiled her grandchildren with cinnamon rolls, candy and other childhood favorites. As a great-grandmother, she was thankful to be able to see, hold and love on her great-grandson, Henry. Her love has touched so many people in 89 years, that it cannot be measured in any way. She was a devoted member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church where she was active in the Paul Beasley Sunday School class (50 years) and served on numerous committees, including the Finance committee. She enjoyed volunteering in the church office and writing notes to congregation members. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Forest Hills United Methodist Church at 1250 Old Hickory Boulevard in Brentwood, TN. The family would like to give a very special thanks to Angela Marable, Latasha Gregory, Beverly Headley, and Debbie Henderson. Special thanks also to the wonderful staff at Belvedere Commons of Franklin for their loving care. They are angels and too numerous to mention.
