Virginia Nichols Elrod
September 30, 1929 - November 5, 2019
Virginia passed away just 35 days after her 90th birthday. Born in Coopertown, Tennessee, she lived the last fifty-five years of her life in Nashville. She was twice widowed: Russell Odell Nichols (November 1951 to February 1980) and Billy Elrod (April 1983 to December 2012). Her parents, Leonard B. Stark and Dollie Lee Stark, her son, Terry Russell Nichols, and stepson, William Kenneth Elrod, preceded her in death.
Having been a devoted homemaker and craftsperson while her children were young, Virginia went on to work in accounting for the Maremont Corporation, before retiring in 1989. Back at home, she excelled as a cook (oh, those pies, cakes, and biscuits!), seamstress, and decorator. She worshipped and served with the Vultee Church of Christ for 55 years.
Virginia is survived by her brother, Roy Gilbert Stark; daughters Bonnie Nichols Reimels (Bill) and Rebecca Nichols Pease (Rob); stepsons, Jim Elrod and Terry Elrod (Mary Joe); grandchildren, Nicholas Pease (Megan), Elizabeth Pease, Matthew Elrod (Christina), Jennifer Elrod, Jonathan Elrod, Rachel Elrod, Rebekah Bischoff (Joseph), and Austin Elrod; sisters-in-law, Mary Sue Elrod Halfacre and Virginia Nichols White; brother-in-law, Earl Nichols; great-grandchildren, Caden Elrod, Ady Elrod, and Henry Elrod; nephews, Roy Gilbert Stark, Jr., Kempf Stark (Cindy), Ralph Fuqua, Billy Ray White, Kenny White, Steve Nichols, Ronnie Nichols, and nieces, Dawn Stark Stephens, Judy Nichols Hoosier, Debby Nichols New, Melissa Nichols Milton and Rita White Prowse; and cousins, Linda Stark Reeder and Ruth Elliott White.
For the last two years, Virginia was a resident of Southerland Place Assisted Living Facility. The family is deeply grateful to the wonderful staff for their kindness and loving care. We also want to thank the excellent nurses of Willowbrook Hospice for making her last days so much easier.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to David Lipscomb University’s Billy and Virginia Elrod Memorial Scholarship Fund or to any charity that is dear to your heart. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 o'clock on Saturday, November 9th 2019 at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the same location on Friday evening between 6:00-8:00 pm, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
