Vivian “Jeanette” (Braden) Dake of Antioch, Tennessee, left her earthly home for her heavenly home on June 27, 2023, at the age of 90. Jeanette was born on April 17, 1933, in Briceville, Tennessee, to Goldman McKinley Braden, Sr. and Ora (Disney) Braden. She was the youngest sister to Violet (Braden) Kendig, G. McKinley Braden, Jr., and Audrey (Braden) Livingston, all from East Tennessee.
Jeanette graduated from Lake City High School in 1951. In April of 1952, she met her soon-to-be husband, Donald Loyd Dake, of Ada, Oklahoma. They married on September 20, 1952. Jeanette and Don had four children.
Together with Don, they opened and managed numerous restaurants over the course of her working life. Their greatest career success was when they opened Dake’s Pancake House in Newton, Kansas, in 1982. Over the course of 10 years, Jeanette and Don owned 5 successful restaurants in various cities located throughout Kansas.
Jeanette and Don were passionate about travel and missions. They traveled often visiting most of the states, Europe, and Mexico. Several mission trips included visits to Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, and Africa. They had compassionate hearts and gave generously to those in need. Their love for God was lived out by serving others.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Jeanette’s caregiver, Mrs. Dee Griffey, and her husband, Bishop A.T. Griffey. “Miss Dee” has become a cherished member of the Dake family. We believe her to be an angel sent to mom at just the right time. Her care for Jeanette and her dedication and support to our family over the past years will never be forgotten.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Dake, Sr., her eldest son, Donald Dake Jr., her youngest grandson, Nicolas Sanhueza, her parents and siblings. Jeanette is survived by her children: Douglas Dake, Sharon Grocock (Steve), Kelly Brown (Robert), 13 grandchildren, and 39 great grandchildren. She was dearly loved by all.
We remember Jeanette’s love and devotion to God, her husband, Don, of nearly 67 years, and her family. Jeanette made a lasting impression on all her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She affectionately referred to each of them as “Mamaw’s Darling”. They adored her almost as much as she adored them. Jeanette will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A private gathering of the immediate family will be held at a later date. Jeanette will be laid to rest with her husband, at Middle Tennessee Veteran’s Cemetery, 7931 McCrory Ln., Nashville, TN 37221
