
Nashville – Walter Thomas "Tom" Deweese, 70, devoted husband and loving father and grandfather, passed away on December 28, 2019 after a sudden illness stemming from a battle with cancer. Tom was born June 17, 1949 in Leitchfield, Kentucky to Isaac Thomas "I.T." Deweese and Jean Deweese (Jobe) Robinson. After high school, he moved to Nashville to attend Belmont College, earning a Bachelor's degree, followed by a Master's degree in Healthcare Administration from Meharry Medical College. He worked for Nashville's Metropolitan Government over 30 years, including in administration of the Davidson County Sheriff's Office, and as administrator of Metropolitan Nashville General Hospital. He married Beth Wallace on June 7, 1980. They raised two daughters, Lindsey and Sarah Beth. After retiring from Metro government, Tom joined the American Hospital Association as a regional executive, retiring in 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Robin Card. Tom is survived by his wife, Beth; daughters Lindsey (Jason) Baldwin and Sarah Beth Deweese; grandchildren Emma and Link Baldwin; brother Bob (Joanne) Deweese; sister Norma Deweese; and innumerable cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Tom's life will be held at 2 p.m. January 18 at Calvary United Methodist Church in Nashville, with a reception to follow. Expressions of sympathy can take the form of donations to Alive Hospice or Room in the Inn of Nashville.
