Welton Jobe Jr. was born June 9, 1921 in Davidson County, Nashville Tennessee to Fannie and Welton Jobe Sr. He departed this earthly life on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at home surrounded by family members.
Welton Jobe Jr. was educated in the Nashville Public School System. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Fannie M. Thames on December 19, 1953; they have enjoyed 65 years of marriage. He was a member of the Pilgrim Emanuel Missionary Baptist Church earlier in life. He later moved his membership to the Saint James Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as an usher.
Welton enjoyed the love of family, and keeping people laughing. He meant a lot of things to many people. He was known as Mr. Jobe to some; known as “Sonny Boy” while growing up for always cracking jokes and bringing laughter; he was known as “Pops” to my surrogate brothers (Tracy Perkins, Hollis Harris Jr, Frederick Wallace Sr, and Ezell Wharton III); he was known as “Grand Daddy” to his grandchildren; but “Grand Pop” to his youngest grandson- Bryce; “Daddy” to Gloria Patton (step daughter- deceased), and affectionately known as “Daddy Welton” to the family. Welton was the oldest of the five Jobe siblings (Charles, William, George, and Fannie), all of which have preceded him in death.
Those left behind to continue his legacy and cherish his memory, daughter (Wanda Jobe); grandchildren; Valeria East, Edward Washington, Antoine Washington, Shelia Martin (Anthony); grandson, Bryce Daniels (Wanda); 14 Great-grandchildren; 4 Great-great-grandchildren; 4 Brothers-in-law, Joseph Thames, Jr. (Janice), Earnest Thames (Pearl), Malachi Thames (Dollie), Rufus Thames (Jackie); 2 Sisters- in -law, Gertrude Davis and Esther Sharpe-Church; devoted niece, Deborah Bonner; devoted nephews, William (Billy) Jobe Jr., Keith Davis, Nicholas Sharpe, Timothy Sharpe, Dennis Black, and Don Bonner; devoted friends, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin and CC Hall; devoted church members of Saint James Missionary Baptist Church; a host of nieces and nephews, and many loving friends.
