

Bill was born on July 21, 1932 in Franklin, TN, son of the late John Sawyer and Lucy Perry Sawyer Rummage. Bill was a graduate of Franklin High School and Peabody College. He also completed graduate work at Vanderbilt University. He proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War and later was a member of VFW Post 4893.
Bill was a long time teacher, principal and coach at Bethesda High School and a supervisor of middle schools in Williamson County prior to retirement. He loved to spend his spare time on a local bowling league. He was a proud and active member of Judson Baptist church for twenty years and participated in the “Marvelous Mix” Sunday School class.
Bill is preceded in death by his step-father, Charlie Rummage; sons, Jeff and Darren Sawyer.
Survivors include his wife of thirty six years, Joyce Brent Trevathan Sawyer; children, Jason Sawyer (Kaylene), Rebecca and Melissa Sawyer; step-children, Edwin Trevathan (Linda) and Philip Trevathan; nine grandchildren, Michael, Madison, Carson and Emma Sawyer, Scott Trevathan (Libby),Daniel Trevathan, Luke Trevathan (Amy), Patrick Trevathan (Caitlin) and Rebecca Trevathan; three great-grandchildren, Ben, Veda and Caden.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at eleven-thirty in the morning on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, with Dr. Ernest Standefer officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held from four o’clock in the afternoon until six on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home.
